Hagar Vietnam conducted a series of communication activities at eight schools in Mu Cang Chai and Tram Tau to raise awareness on human trafficking.

The initiative is part of Hagar Internationals’ ‘COVID-19 Victims of Human Trafficking are Resilient’ project and funded by the U.S. Department of State.

The programme involves collaboration with the Women’s Union of Yen Bai Province and eight local schools to train, support, provide assistance to and promote behaviour change in victims of human trafficking as well as enhancing interagency coordination and referral mechanisms. Almost 3,400 students participated in the creative “Safe luggage – peaceful destination” competition, with many showcasing their talents in the creative and performing arts. The competition equipped the children with more knowledge about human trafficking while simultaneously enabling them to express their creative side.

Representative of the Board of Directors of La Pan Tan High School for Ethnic Minority Affairs and Secondary School said although the programme was difficult to organise because of the pandemic, it was well worth it and in line with the school’s values.

““Despite the difficulties in organizing due to the COVID epidemic, we are very happy to receive the enthusiastic response from the students. Human trafficking is also a key topic that our school wants to focus on and propagate widely. With the support from Hagar, the students are provided with the knowledge and skills needed to protect themselves and their family from the risk of being trafficked,” they said.
